The People’s Team got a K15 million upfront payment on the hope of recovering it from proceeds of the promotion, but according to a statement from TNM, only K5.8 million was realised.

“TNM is yet to meet Big Bullets FC on the way forward. We will do so as soon as Big Bullets are ready enough to meet and discuss the shortfall and how it will be addressed,” wrote TNM’s sponsorship and public relations manager Limbani Nsapato in a response to a questionnaire.

He added: “Also take note that being a joint promotion, the final draw also delayed due to current developments in Big Bullets, but nevertheless we proceeded to do the final draw with the Malawi Gaming Board, the promotion’s licensing authorities.

The grand prize winner Kaponya, is a resident of Che Mussa Township in Blantyre.

He was all smiles for the windfall, which he plans to invest in his tyre-fitting business.

“The prize is just like a bonus. otherwise my participation in the promotion was driven by my interest to bail out my cash-strapped club whose participation in the CAF was in doubt until TNM bailed us out and introduced the SMS promotion,” said Kaponya.

The SMS Promotion was launched on February 4 2015.
